Auburn Football Practice Report
Monday 11-09-2009 7:02am CT
Nov. 8, 2009 Auburn, Ala. - The 25th-ranked Auburn football team returned to the practice fields Sunday evening after taking the past two Sunday's off following a game. The Tigers went through a light 40-minute practice session behind the Auburn Athletic Complex. Coming off a 63-31 victory over Furman which saw the defense hold the Paladin to 266 total yards of offense, Auburn defensive coordinator Ted Roof noted the importance of several players seeing time in Saturday's game. "(Watching film) I saw 31 Auburn Tigers play and take the field defensively," Roof said. "Some of those guys were receivers or scout team offensive tackles or guards that jumped in there and got some reps for us. Our first group played well, though." Playing mostly in the first half, the Tigers' first unit defense held Furman to 59 yards on 28 plays as Auburn held a 42-3 edge at the intermission. "That was where we (first unit defense) needed to go and how we needed to play," Roof added. "Getting a lot of players in during the second half will help us in practice this week. There are things we obviously have to get better at, but we're putting forth the effort."

Nov. 7, 2009 Final Stats | Quotes | Notes | Photo Gallery AUBURN - Auburn racked up 63 points on 655 yards of total offense to pick up a school-record 18th-consecutive Homecoming win, downing Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) member Furman, 63-31, Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Auburn improves to 7-3 on the season while the Paladins fall to 4-6. Five different Tigers scored touchdowns in the game with Darvin Adams leading the team with a game-high three touchdown receptions. Auburn was able to spread the wealth in the victory as eight different Tigers logged at least one rush and nine hauled in at least one reception. "It was great to go out there and get a win," said Auburn head coach Gene Chizik. "We played a lot of young guys today and we played every senior who we have on our squad, which is really important for us to be able to do that." Quarterback Chris Todd completed his first 14 passes of the game en route to finishing the day 17-of-18 with 256 yards and four touchdown passes. Connecting on 94.4 percent of his passes, Todd broke the Auburn single-game record for completion percentage. "It was really good to see Chris. He was on the run for a lot of his throws, and he was very efficient in what he did," said Chizik. "It is hard to complete that many in a row. It was good to see him come out and fire on all cylinders."

Tigers Use 23-Point Third Quarter To Down No. 24 Ole Miss, 33-20
Monday 11-02-2009 9:53am CT
Auburn used a 23-point third quarter to pull out a 33-20 upset win over No. 24 Ole Miss on Saturday afternoon at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Ben Tate led the Auburn offense with 144 yards rushing as Auburn became bowl eligible with its fifth come-from-behind victory this season. "I can't give our football team enough credit, starting with our seniors and just the way they responded in a tough stretch," said Auburn head coach Gene Chizik. "They willed that win. That was a very, very good football team that we beat tonight and our kids deserved it because they never quit fighting. It doesn't surprise anybody in our locker room that that's who they are." Tate's 144 yards also pushed him past the 1,000-yard plateau for the season, marking the first time in his career to amass 1,000 yards in a season. "Ben went for over 1,000 yards today and I think that is significant in what we are trying to establish here as far as building a foundation on what we want to do," said Chizik. "He had another big day of 100 plus yards and that one big run. Ben just continues to show up and I am really proud of the way his leadership has come to the forefront for our football team."
Gene Chizik Previews The Ole Miss Game
Wednesday 10-28-2009 12:16pm CT
Oct. 27, 2009 Opening Statement: "We're really excited to obviously move on and play another great SEC game. It's going to be really fun for us just to be able to come back home and play in front of our great fans It's going to be an 11:21 a.m. kick off. We're excited about being back at Jordan-Hare in front of our fans It will be a fun day, but a challenging weekend. Ole Miss is a very good team; probably the most balanced -- running the ball and throwing the ball -- that we've played up to date. Defensively, they have great players. They average about three sacks a game on defense, and they are very solid all around. It's going to be a great challenge for us, since they are such a good football team. But at 11:21, we're looking forward to kicking off." Q: How's the team mentally after three losses? "They are great; they've been great. Sunday we came back in here and it was just what I expected. I'm really proud of this group. These last couple of weeks has shown their true personalities and their marks. Just from talking to them individually, I can tell that they really want to win. So, they've been excellent. I'm really proud of our few seniors; they've really stepped up to the plate. We're moving past last week and on to the next game. It's really what you want to see as a head coach."

Oct. 24, 2009 Final Stats | Notes | Photo Gallery 1 | Photo Gallery 2 AUBURN FALLS TO NO. 9 LSU BATON ROUGE, La. - No. 9 LSU was too much for Auburn in Baton Rouge on Saturday night, as they defeated the Tigers 31-10 before a crowd of 92,654 at noisy Tiger Stadium. Three turnovers and penalties plagued Auburn in the first half, and while the offense struggled against what Head Coach Gene Chizik called "one of the best defenses in the country," Auburn fought to the end--scoring its only touchdown on the last play of the game. "They played a really good football game," Chizik said. "They have a really good football team. We got ourselves in a hole early with some things and tried to work our way back out of it. It was kind of a sloppy first quarter with penalties and things of that nature. Chizik said he was pleased that his team battled until the end. "The kids kept fighting, kept playing down to the end," Chizik said. "Like I told them, these are good football teams. We have another opportunity to play next week. We are going to look at the film. We're going to see what we did good, we're going to see what we did bad and move on."
